A Reminder of Why This Matters

Since September, this school year has been a frenzied blur of fundraisers. It's easy to get caught up on the endless to-do-list and the tally of how close/far we are from our goal. Thanks to the talent and artistry of one of my former students, I was reminded yesterday of why this really matters. It matters because producing the show "With Their Eyes" has had a huge impact on the students in it. This show has taught them a part of their history that they are too young to understand. For those of us old enough to remember the horrendous events surrounding 9/11, this show forces us to reflect on how this event changed and re-shaped our nation. This show is the perfect example of theatre that teaches, and theatre that touches your heart. To be given the opportunity to share this message with a world wide audience, that is what this madness is all about. We all need to reflect sometimes on what really matters.

SHARING OUR GIFT

"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."
Pablo Picasso
Last night we wrapped up our latest fundraiser, our kids' theatre academy, "When You Wish Upon a Star".  This experience was all about sharing our gifts.  Victor Valley High School has received the largest gift possible with our selection to perform to at the largest theatre festival in the world in the summer of 2015.  Not to brag, but my students are pretty "gifted" as long as we are talking about gifts. They are talented performers, wonderful individuals, and great teachers.  Their enthusiasm, creativity and passion over the course of the last three Saturdays had a huge impact on the kids attending our academy. They shared their gift of performing with all of the kids at camp, and you could see and feel a blossoming love of theatre in all of the camp participants as they performed at the showcase last night.  When Troupe 2757 looks back on this entire experience of fundraising for the Fringe, I know they will look back on the experience of running the kids' academy with great fondness.  Thank you to all of the families that payed for their children to attend our academy, your gift will help us share ours with the world!  TROUPE 2757 GOES TO SCOTLAND!
